Tackling a new website!!
As I'm thinking about writing this blog, I see out my studio window a HUGE, very full moon. That explains why I haven't been able to sleep!! Does that happen to you? You lay awake at nite wondering why you can't sleep? Maybe that's just me. Ha. Okay, let's focus now on the task at hand - writing the first blog on my new photography website. Exciting!!! I've been a professional photographer based in Manhattan, Kansas for 9 years and I've loved every minute of it! It's my side-gig as I'm also a full-time crop insurance service rep in a wonderful industry providing crop insurance protection to America's hard-working farmers. I'm married to an incredible, Jesus-loving man who supports my photography dream and helps me every step of the way. He took this profile pic of me at the K-State gardens. (He's a great photographer himself so that's pretty handy!)
When I first started my photography business I used a Zenfolio website...it really did a good job for me for many years but in the last couple of years I realized it needed updated. Badly. Like "oh man that looks antiquated" bad. Now, I've done some html-coding in my younger years, but.... it's been awhile and things are different nowadays. The number of choices of website-builders available now is astounding! I chose one called Photobiz that is geared towards photography AND seemed to be easy enough for my small brain. You know, drag & drop features. Plus they have outstanding customer support! Yet here it's been, at least 18 months since I initially started on this new website. I think I started it during COVID and then after that adventure was pretty much over, things got too busy to work on the website for awhile. So I'm back at it now, in any little pockets of time I can find outside of my normal 8-5. And I think it is ready to share! Of course I'll probably have some broken links or typos (I hate typos!! If you see any, send me a message and let me know!) :-).
My goal is to share something useful with each blog so here goes. Did you know when you're building a website you can & should check the compatibility of the website design with various devices? Ie., desktops, iPhones, iPads, androids, tablets.... Here's how you do it on a MacBook - it's really pretty simple! In Safari, go to Preferences/Advanced. In the Advanced window make sure you have check marked "show Develop module on menu". Then, from your website page simply do Ctrl+Cmd+R and you will enter Responsive Design Mode. (I know, pretty impressive, right?!) It's so cool becuz you can "try on" all the various devices to make sure your website design looks good on all! This fun bit of information will be helpful not just for photographers building photography business websites but for any type of business building a website. So go give it a try and let me know how it worked for you!
Hopefully this information will help you out as it did me. And I hope you'll take a look around my new website and see if you'd be interested in doing a consult to plan out a photography session for your family, children, graduating senior, pet, or any special occasion! I would love to talk with you about commissioning a session where I will provide an exceptional level of service and creative-detail to make sure you get gorgeous images that you'll cherish for many, many years! Thanks for reading and looking around my new site!
